W3C Web Payments Working Group / Payment Request API
The World Wide Web Consortium is a community of paid and community developers that maintain standard and organization of the internet, the payments group is a subgroup of the W3C that aims at making payments on the web safer and easier.
A group of Bitcoin developers are trying to get Bitcoin, both on-chain and lightning payments, as a payment method in the W3C Payments group, this can be a huge step towards more adoption in which we can get wallets as parts of our web browsers in the future with support for external wallets as well.
The payment request will require some work on the APIs and the Payment identifiers, but it shouldn’t be anything impossible, so we should be looking out for Bitcoin and Lightning support in the future!
