Electrum Begins Adding Support for the Lighting Network
The Electrum developers have been hard at work. Since the security update (3.0.5), four new updates have been published on a biweekly basis.
Some of these updates include the memory-pool based fee estimation, capital gains calculations, and local transactions. Outside of the release notes, a lightning fork has been discovered. Upon closer inspection of all the software’s branches, it is clear that Lightning Network development is underway due to the two branches lightning and old_lightning
Based on the updates, it is not clear exactly how the Lightning wallet will be implemented. Ideally, it would connect to a server running a Lightning Network proxy, enabling the user to go online and offline at their choosing, akin a traditional Bitcoin wallet.
We will be monitoring the development of this fork closely.
